PERIOD 1

Describing Upcoming Plans

How to Use Be Going To

We can use “be going to” to describe upcoming plans.

• Affirmative:
[S + am/is/are + going to + Vinf]
Ex: I am going to watch a movie.

• Negative:
[S + am/is/are + NOT + going to + Vinf]
Ex: I am NOT going to watch a movie.

• Question:
[(Wh-Question) + am/is/are + S + going to + Vinf … ?]
Ex1: What are you going to do?
Ex2: Are you going to watch a movie? 

Practice

Talk with Andy. Describe the upcoming plans:

• The things you are going to do after graduation.
• The places you are going to visit in the future.
• The hairstyle you are going to make next year.
• The movies you are going to watch.

Ex: I am going to go abroad after graduation. I am going to visit Canada… 

Production

Using To Infinitives

How to Use To Infinitives

We can use “to infinitives” to describe purposes or reasons.

• After an adjective: adj + to infinitives.
Ex: It’s easy to do this homework.

• After a clause: clause (S+V+O) + to infinitives.
Ex: I go there to buy a pen.

• After quantifiers and nouns: quantifier + noun + to infinitives.
Ex: I have many tasks to do. 

How to Invite, Respond, and Make Arrangements

• Inviting:
[Would you like to + Vinf…?]
[Are you interested of + Ving…?]
[Do you want to + Vinf…?]

Ex: Would you like to go to the cinema?

• Accepting:
[That’s a good idea!]
[Thanks. I would love to.]

• Refusing:
[I’m sorry but…]
[Thanks, but…]

Ex: Thanks, but I have homework to do.

• Making arrangement:
[What time…?]
[Let’s + Vinf…]
[See you at…]

Ex1: What time do we meet?
Ex2: Let’s meet at 10 a.m.!
Ex3: See you at 10 o’clock. 

Practice

• Stay at home to do homework.
• Go to the mall to buy clothes.
• Go to the internet café to play games.
